Is a root canal painful?
No. With modern local anesthesia, the tooth and gums are completely numbed. The procedure is no more uncomfortable than a typical filling. It is performed to relieve the intense pain caused by pulp infection.
How many visits are required for a root canal?
In most cases, we complete the root canal in a single visit using automated rotary endodontic systems. If there is a severe abscess or deep root infection, Dr. Rafique might place medication inside and complete it in a second session.
How long does the treatment take?
A single session takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes per tooth, depending on the number of root canals (front teeth have 1, back molars can have 3 or 4).
Will I need a dental crown after a root canal?

Can I eat immediately after a root canal?
We advise waiting until the numbness from local anesthesia has completely worn off (usually 2 hours) to avoid biting your cheek or tongue. Try to avoid chewing on the treated side until the final crown is secured.

The infection will continue to spread deeper into the tooth roots, deteriorating the surrounding jawbone. This creates severe abscesses and intense pain, eventually making tooth extraction the only remaining option.
